Cannabis Molecular Research shows how CBD balances THC's psychiatric Side Effects
Share
A team of researchers found the involvement of extracellular-signal-regulated kinase (ERK), which is a brain protein that initiates the neuropsychiatric effects of THC.
According to the study, rats with THC had larger levels of activated ERK, more anxiety-related behaviours, and more susceptibility to learning based on fear. Rats with both CBD & THC behaved similarly to control rats: they exhibited low levels of anxiety- including behaviours, had regular levels of activated ERK, and were less susceptible to fear-based learning.
Based on these findings, the researchers hypothesise that CBD forbids THC's harmful side effects by preventing it from overstimulating the ERK route in the hippocampus.
